Hernyák Wine Dinner Evening - 2015.10.16. Etyek (Hungary)

Our family has lived and worked in the Etyek wine region since 1993.

In the first years we wanted to introduce the distilling traditions brought from Vojvodina to the village, but after a few years we found ourselves helping the local Swabian community to pick the grapes.

So it wasn’t hard to fall in love and try our hand at wine. We received a lot of support and help from local winemakers, and we also made a lot of friends in other wine regions of the country.

Fortunately, over time, the whole family found its place in this world and now two generations work together, side by side, helping each other. Our farm has grown a lot in the last 25 years or so. The initial dough-filtering, artisanal solutions have been replaced by much more conscious cellar technology. However, despite the use of modern equipment and techniques, our aim has always been to keep the style of the estate homely, natural and homely.

Our shared dream was to create a self-sustaining farm where wifi and ladybugs, pneumatic press and hand-picking, air-conditioned tractor and hand hoe could coexist and even help each other in some ways. Our life is an open book for our guests, and the lines are still being written. Each year, one of our countless plans for the wine region is realised, because we believe in gradual, organic development and we look to the future with patience.

After much planning and experience, the estate has switched to organic farming in 2015, which will bring even healthier grapes and wines to the table. For us, organic pest management is just one pillar of this work. Composting, the continuous integration of renewable energies, conscious and sustainable energy management, greening and de-chemicalising our environment have become a priority in our whole life and way of thinking.

Thanks to the exceptional climatic conditions and the valuable calcareous soil, the potential for viticulture in this landscape is inexhaustible. Our aim is to learn all the secrets of the 7 hectares of land we have acquired over the years and to harvest the grapes in the best possible condition year after year.

We are dedicating a great chapter in the life of Etyek to Champagne. We believe that the professional building of the next few years will give Etyek the style that will make it stand out nationally and later internationally. That’s why we are now working with local winemakers to create the first Hungarian sparkling wine origin protection in Etyek.
